July 25, 2008
As previously reported, Japanese MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) JCI (Japan Communications Incorporation) had made an announcement in late June that it will procure WCDMA (Wide Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phones from ZTE of China. According to a July 22 report by Nikkei, JCI decided to augment the scale of said procurement project, placing an order with ZTE for 100,000 more 3G WCDMA phones. ZTE's WCDMA phone for JCI has been certified by the Japan Approvals Institute for Telecommunications Equipment and the Telecom Engineering Center. In addition, ZTE will also provide WCDMA data cards for JCI. The Japanese MVNO is scheduled to start promoting its b-mobile3G hours150 service leveraging the ZTE device beginning on August 7, 2008.
